Changing content filter settings

Assigning content filters

There are three different settings for the content filter in NoSpamProxy Cloud which process email attachments with varying degrees of strictness.

You can assign content filter sets

  • as default partner settings,
  • for individual partner domains,
  • as the default setting for corporate users or
  • for individual Active Directory groups

.

TIP: We recommend that you initially make these settings the default for partners or corporate users. This makes it easier for you to keep an overview and avoid faulty configurations. In any case, you should select the filter Strict/Streng for this default setting and only make absolutely necessary, granular adjustments for partner domains or AD groups.

Changing settings

To change the settings for the content filter, proceed as follows:

  1. Do one of the following:
    • Go to Identities > Corporate users > Content filtering.
    • Go to Identities > Partners > Default partner settings.
    • Go to Identities > Partners and select the partner domain whose content filtering you want to edit.
  2. Click Modify.
  3. Select the content filter settings for inbound and outbound emails. See Changing content filter settings.

  4. Click Save.

NOTE: If no content filter is available for selection here, no content filters have been created for you yet. In this case, contact your reseller/managed service provider directly.

Preconfigured content filter sets

Here you will find a tabular overview of the content filter sets preconfigured in NoSpamProxy Cloud as well as their respective settings.

Inbound emails

Inbound emails with sandboxing

NOTE: The content filter settings Medium - Sandboxing and Strict - Sandboxing are available if you have purchased a licence for the NoSpamProxy Sandbox Service. The Sandbox Service increases the likelihood that harmful content will be detected.

Important notes

NOTE:
  • The content filter Wildcard allows all inbound emails to pass and should only be used in special cases.
  • NoSpamProxy processes emails whose size does not exceed 500 MB.
  • Files stored on the Web Portal are automatically deleted after four weeks. If in doubt, download any files you may need.
  • We recommend that you select the setting Strict for both inbound and outbound emails.
  • If there are non-allowed file types inside allowed archives such as ZIP, 7ZIP or GZIP, the entire archive is handled according to the configuration for the file type. Thus, if an email contains an (allowed) ZIP-compressed file, it will be rejected if the ZIP archive contains, for example, a (non-allowed) executable file.
